Frequently Asked Questions
Is my business/organization too small for your company?
Not at all! Sure, we work with some pretty big organizations, but we also work with a lot of small and medium sized businesses. Some of our best and most successful clients started out as one-person companies! Of course, one of the big advantages of partnering with WebFocus while you are just starting off is that you won't have to shift companies as you get larger. We know what works and what doesn't, so we can help you grow according to YOUR schedule.
How much can I expect to pay for a complete custom web site? Everyone gives me different estimates.
A web site's cost is based upon many factors, including timeframe, complexity, and amount of content. If you have a very small site that is mostly non-interactive, the site can be developed in a relatively short time and will be less expensive than a site that requires many hours of complex programming and design.
It's very difficult to give accurate quotes for web site design, but we encourage you to contact us for a free estimate.
After launch of my new site, how long will it take to obtain visibility in the search engines?
Unfortunately, this is not an easy answer due to the unknowns associated with evolving search engine behavior. However, in our experience, new domains typically achieve search engine visibility approximately six to nine months after launch of the site. Your site may obtain visibility in Yahoo! and Bing prior to Google, due largely to initial aging delays that withhold new websites from Google for a length of time before indexing. While WebFocus develops websites to be compatible with search engine indexing technology, there may be unavoidable delays in obtaining organic visibility. During this delay, focus on your offline and pay-per-click advertising to drive traffic to your site.
What kinds of questions should I ask a Web Consultant?
- You should find out who will be performing the work on your site. Project Team Leader will assign a designer to your project and Project Coordinator will be your point of contact for all matters.
- You should obtain a list of their policies and ask for a sample contract. Some web designers may retain the copyrights to web sites they have designed for you!
- You should ask about web hosting package. Website development contracts and cost estimates do not always include a place for your web site to be stored so it can be viewed by the public.
- You should definitely ask about turnaround time and how you will be able to monitor progress of your project.
How long does it take to build a website?
Like anything, a good website takes time. Because WebFocus focuses on custom solutions, we need to work with you to develop your website to meet your needs. To build a website properly and thoroughly, it is important to determine a timeline from the beginning. Some project can take a matter of weeks and others can take many months. What is SEO?
Search engine optimization (SEO), is a term used to describe a process of improving the volume of traffic to a web site from search engines, usually in ("organic" or "natural") search results. Many site owners and consultants engaging in SEO attempt to pursue qualified visitors to a website, and the quality of visitor traffic can be measured by how often a visitor using a specific keyword phrase leads to a desired conversion action, such as making a purchase, viewing or downloading a certain page, requesting further information, signing up for a newsletter, or taking some other specific action.
When should I consider upgrading my website?
The amount of time before a website becomes obsolete varies depending upon factors such as type and relevance of content, design, accessibility and usability levels, etc.
So, it is difficult to state an exact time, but generally, if your business has had a website for a couple of years and its starting to look a little boring, or perhaps the content is out of date, it may be time to consider an upgrade. Alternatively, if you feel your website needs a new feature that you've seen somewhere else or if you would like to improve your business's image, it may also be time to upgrade.
What is a content management system (CMS)?
A content management system (CMS) is an online platform that underlies many websites enabling the website owner or webmaster to administer the website. This can be as simple as making changes to text and images on the website or as complex as changing the layout and complete look and feel of a website.
Content management systems are designed and built to enable business owners or employees to makes changes to websites without the need for technical knowledge and know how. CMS platforms will often include what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) editors that function in much the same fashion as well known word processing software such as Microsoft Word.
